Write and Record : Songwriting and Recording Sessions

Original songwriting and recording have been at the core of the PSRS pedagogy since day one and we are proud to offer one of the most creative and unique songwriting experiences in NYC and PARIS. Since 2008, our songwriting programs have inspired notable artists to mentor and collaborate with our students for special events uniquely designed by PSRS.

Park Slope Rock School’s WRITE AND RECORD CAMPS are a 5-day workshop on the craft of songwriting and recording. Open to all ability levels, ages 10-18, bands meet every day for 3 hours. Students will learn how to:

  • Actively listen to songs to better understand their construction

  • Analyze song structures and other arrangement techniques

  • Use harmony and melody to create compelling arrangements

  • Write lyrics that express their ideas while relating to a wider audience

The week culminates in a visit to a professional recording studio to learn about the recording process and record their original songs. Students leave with a fully recorded and mixed version of their song.

“My son Max and his friends Gus and Cameron all attended the PSRS Summer Songwriting programs. I can't recommend PSRS highly enough - the teachers are amazing and so dedicated. It's more than just playing music together, it's a community. I'm so grateful that Max was able to be part of this amazing school, play with his best friends and now tour the world together.
